OTF, TTF and SVG — which and when
Four files of the same letter. A short map of which one goes to print, screen and cutting.
Open a full set and several formats appear: OTF, TTF, SVG, EPS, AI and a PDF specimen. This is not repetition — each one speaks to a different stage of production.
To install: OTF and TTF
OTF and TTF are the font files you install on the operating system. You install these to type a name and set it directly in a design tool. Both carry the same letter; their difference is technical, and in everyday use it rarely matters.
For cutting and print: SVG, EPS, AI
Vector files carry the letter not as a font but as an editable shape. A cutting plotter, a heat transfer or a print shop asks for these — because what is needed there is not an installed font but a clean path.
- —OTF · TTF — install and set in software
- —SVG — web and modern cutting/design tools
- —EPS · AI — print shops and vector editing
- —PDF specimen — character coverage and usage
Do you need only the file, or a print-ready full set — the job answers that question. On each product page you can see the scope, try it in KARAType and choose the package that fits the work.
